In response to Rachel’s post…

What are some courses you have taken outside of your major? And did you learn anything worthwhile?

My major is psychology, and I think that all of the courses I took outside this major were all worthwhile. I think all of the management classes I have taken since I am pursing a minor in management have taught me a great deal. I learned a lot in my accounting class like how to manage my money. In my human resource management course I learned a lot of what goes on in the workplace. Another class would be my communications class which taught me how to communicate with people better and other how people interact with one another. Public speaking was another course that helped me a great deal. I always had the fear of presenting in front of an audience and this class taught me skills that helped me present in front of a audience of any size. Now I feel confident to present and will hold those skills with me forever. Do you think it is important to take courses outside your major and if yes, why?
