In response to Christine’s post…

Do you think flash mobs are the new future of marketing?

I do think flash mobs will be a new and popular way to market in the future. It is something different to appeal to customers. I definitely agree that it appeals to our generation. It is cool and fun to watch and as well gives out information and informs the public of products services or anything else it is trying to market. It is a new and upcoming thing that I think will eventually be really big. I already see some in commercials, movies, and even had some kind of one on campus today in the student center. I think it is something that marketers should try out and if it end up being a fail then don’t use it anymore.

Product placements in movies

Product placements in movies and TV shows are becoming so commonplace. The most known first popular product placement was in the 1982 movie E.T. when the boy used the Reese’s Pieces to lure E.T. into his home. This was part a marketing trick that had been pre-arranged with selling the candy. There have been studies done that say people tend to remember the brands they see in a movie, but they can't say much about how a particular product's placement makes a difference.

It is a great way for marketers to advertise their products without the viewers even realizing it. This is becoming more important to marketers today because usually it is done in commercials, but most people fast forward through the commercials with the new technology that they don’t even see the ads, so putting them in movies is a new and prominent idea.
Here is a chart that I found in the Cognitive Daily that lists some of the movies and products that are shown in the movie and for how long.
Do you think it's a good idea for marketers to use product placement?
