Marketing for Children

Marketing for children is a big part for many companies because in today’s times kids have more influence and power over their parents than ever before. According to the article How Markers Target Kids, “Children today are pressuring their parents buying decisions and they are going to eventually be the adult consumers of the future. Industry spending on advertising to children has exploded in the past decade, increasing from $100 million in 1990 to more than $2 billion in 2000. There are many strategies that marketers use to target children, but here are some.”

The mixture of psychology and marketing- Psychology is important when marketing to children because it helps the markets know the way children behave and act, and most of all what they desire.

Building brand name loyalty- The way Marketers try to build brand name and loyalty is to start showing children at an early age a type of brand, and from there they hope that the child will grow to like a certain brand over another. According to the Center for a New American Dream, “babies as young as six months of age can form mental images of corporate logos. Brand loyalties can be established as early as age two, and by the time children head off to school most can recognize hundreds of brand logos.”

Commercialization in education- This is big to corporations because now they are able to put and promote their brand in schools, which is the best place to market to children.

The internet- This is a major way to market for all ages. However it has a big impact on marketing to children. This is because now younger children are growing up using the internet and most of the time without supervision, so markets will take advantage of this opportunity to market to children.
