Super Bowl Commercial "Man's Best Friend"

Everyone tunes into to see the Super Bowl and roots for their team. But then you always have those who tune in just to see the commercials. This year’s super bowl one commercial came to the top of the charts ranking number 1 in USA Today’s annual super bowl ad meter. The Doritos commercial “Man’s Best Friend.” The creator Jonathan Friedman won a 1 million cash bonus prize. The win for “Man’s Best Friend” marks the third time in Super Bowl advertising history that a Doritos commercial has topped the USA Today’s ad meter rankings.
I found this to be really interesting. The Super Bowl is one of the most watched televised events. This being said companies can use this to their advantage when putting certain ads on television during the Super Bowl. Commercials are so big in our society today that consumers are watching and getting ideas from them every day. By this being the most popular commercial during the Super Bowl, do you think that this helped Doritos sales after the commercial aired?

In response to Emma’s post...

Can you think of the last product or service you really enjoyed and may have told your friends about? Do you think marketing by word of mouth has a big impact on sales?

The last service that I really enjoyed would be this really good restaurant that opened up a few blocks away from my house in my home town called Kelly’s corner. It is a small restaurant with a friendly atmosphere. I went with my mom to try it and we both were so surprised about how good the service was and how excellent the food was. We were both frustrated with most of the restaurants near us that we were so happy that we finally found one that we enjoyed. After we ate there the first thing we did when we left was tell everyone how good it was. My mom called all my aunts and raved about it. I went out later that night and told all my friends how good the restaurant was. Weeks later I came to find out that all my aunts had tried it out and even my friends when with their families there.

I definitely think that marketing by word of mouth has a big impact on sales. There have been many times where I have gone to go try out a restaurant or new store if I heard a family or friend rave about it. In my example you can also see how word of mouth helps a lot. Just by my mom and I telling a few people, word spread and almost everyone I knew had tried out the restaurant. Do you think marketing by word of mouth is more effective then marketing through other ways?
