American Idol has been the top
rated TV series in the last 6 seasons, however since then some of the ratings
have gone down. What producers did that made the series still a success and is
said to be a lifetime success, is with the brand advertisements they put on the
show.
One main example I think of
branding on the show, is the Coca-Cola cups that each judge has on their table
right next to them every episode. This is why I think Coca-Cola is no surprise
being the top brand advertised on American Idol.
Coca-Cola was the top American Idol
season 7 advertisers for the first quarter of 2008, followed by AT&T and
Ford. Procter & Gamble and Apple rounded out the top five. All five of
these companies have advertised on American Idol since 2002 and, with the
exception of Apple, all of them also held spots among the top five American
Idol advertisers in season 6.
Advertising revenue, which
primarily benefits Fox Broadcasting, has grown in each of the last three years,
according to TNS Media Intelligence. Brand extension is huge for this company
and for all the companies involved with the show, it is I think keeps American
Idol afloat now.
What do you think another brand can do to out beat Coca-Cola on American Idol?
